Having a minor or severe mental illness is very troubling and painful! Salt Lake City Drug Rehab Centers fully understands this and that is why we go to all lengths to help alleviate you from the crippling effects your mental health disorders bring you!

It does not matter if you are dealing with some mild anxiety or depression or a major depressive disorder.

We are here to help as we have the best therapists in Utah working for you!

You do not have to self-medicate your symptoms any longer if you do not want to! Healing is indeed possible!

As previously mentioned, many addicts resort to self-medicating their debilitating mental disorders in order to attempt to cope with their mental anguishes. Unfortunately, this only worsens the situations and exacerbates the mental illnesses. Drug abuse and alcoholism have psychoactive stimulants that do not help calm the brain as many addicts believe. They may feel they are being calmed down but science is science.

For example, many addicts believe the nicotine in a cigarette has a calming factor to it. However, when it break it down to pure science, the nicotine in a cigarette is a stimulant and that is why the user will feel a "buzz" from the nicotine. Nicotine stimulant will in fact raise your blood pressure and do the opposite from calming you down.

Your brain has tricked you that you feel calmer because it is hijacked and addicted to the substance(s) completely believing that the cigarette amongst other harmful chemicals are a means for survival! Now imagine the other more dangerous toxins addicts put into their body! This is why you need treatment with professional counseling in order to help sort out the facts and learn the difference between belief and reality!

If not treated properly, mental health disorders can be life threatening as many addicts start to believe the only  solution to their problems is suicide! They get so lost into their depression they feel like no one will miss them or wants them around! They start to obsess how the best way to end all of their pain is to kill themselves and then they will not have to bother anyone with their sufferings. Now you have a better idea of why many addicts who have a dual-diagnosis disorder cope with drugs!

Something that our Utah Addiction Center teaches which sounds very contradictive at first is that substance abuse is not the problem! Say What?! Yes, we did not stutter; Salt Lake City Drug Rehab Centers knows that drugs and alcohol are the solution to the problems in one's life!

A really easy way to understand this concept is to take this simple mental health test by asking yourself, "if the addict completely stops drinking and drugging, will he/she not have any more problems and will all of their current problems suddenly become resolved"? The answer is a resounding, NO! If an addict has finally curtailed their chemical dependency, they will have the clarity and ability to finally take on their life one situation at a time.

This is where any one of our residential treatment centers can help you or a loved one slow down and with the help of expert counsel and guidance, make sense of everything and turn the previously almost impossible and overwhelming tasks into bite sized accomplishments! If drugs and alcohol are not the problem then what is right? Well, we can think of many different mental health issues that take full control of an addict's life.

They can come from both situational as well as biological reasons. Situational meaning trauma from past incidents such as emotional, physical or even sexual abuse! Biological meaning that there was nothing the addict could do if he/she was born with bipolar disorder, clinical depression or any other mood disorders.
